The "power control" switch on the X-100B series basically reduces the voltage of the phase inverter, so that it can't put out as much signal, and starts to clip very early. The newer ones are definitely a bit heavier sounding with more bass, IMHO. I have a 90s X-100B (series III?) and one of the new(er) series IV varieties. But am I losing out on a sonic dimension that is only available with a 4x12” cab? To make use of the power available from the new Carvin I think I’d need a 4x12” but that level of volume just isn’t something I need right now, and the back panel switch allows 50w and 25w operation. I do possess a 2X12 Marshall style 2061 (Sourmash clone with Scumbacks), a single 12” with a Mojo Celestion clone, and a single 15” JBL K130, a Bassman 2x15” cab with JBL D130s. I’m looking for strategies for using footpedal boost switch and the small toggles by the lead channel volume and boost knob, and tone controls in combination with eq sliders.Īs for speakers, I’ve never owned a 4x12 cab. This is the first channel switcher I’ve owned and first high-gain amp since I sold my Mesa SOB decades ago. ![]()
